Here we go again! Frocking up to raise money and much needed awareness for ovarian cancer and the research required to find an early detection test. Because women deserve more time.

This year, you'll be 'treated' to daily ovarian cancer facts as well as daily 'Mum facts' - because the woman behind the statistic was pretty damn incredible.

My Mum was 60 when she died.

She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer four and a bit years before and by the time she died it had metastasized to her liver, kidneys, lungs, chest cavity, brain, spine and probably countless other areas I have forgotten about.

If we’d caught it sooner she would probably still be alive now. She would have had the chance to meet all four of her grandchildren, she would have seen her son get married, she would have seen her daughter graduate as a mental health nurse, she would have enjoyed many more glasses of wine with me.

But, instead, she became another statistic.

Despite being the most lethal gynaecological cancer, ovarian cancer research remains critically underfunded.

I've been participating in Frocktober for about 11 years now. Something small I can do to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and to also raise money for those way more intelligent than me to research how this cancer operates, and hopefully to find an early detection test.

Since the cervical cancer screening program was introduced in Australia in 1991, incidence and mortality rates of cervical cancer have HALVED. We can only dream of this kind of result for ovarian cancer, too.

More funding means more research. More funding means more lives saved. Let's frocking do it.

My Updates

Frocktober 2022 Day 31. Did you know? Mum's favourite place to be was the beach. The day I drove Mum home from the hospital for the last time, it was a no brainer to take the coast road home. We knew I was taking her home to die and that this would be the last time she’d get to see her beloved ocean in this lifetime. She died two weeks later and to this day I’m so glad I was able to give her one last glimpse. I miss you Mum. I hope you get to splash in the ocean every day, wherever you are, x
