In April 2019 at just 25 years of age I was diagnosed with stage IV Ovarian Cancer. Over the past 17 months I have endured multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and unfortunately have more to come.

I am participating in Frocktober to help raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer symptoms and raise funds for early detection research so the next generations of women don’t have to go through what I have.

My Updates

More than 80% of women experience a recurrence of their Ovarian Cancer after successful treatment? At this point, the cancer is likely chemo resistant 👎🏼 Chemoresistance is responsible for the treatment failure and mortality for more than 90% of patients with advanced stage Ovarian Cancer. In my case, despite all my surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy, I have never been considered to have “no evidence of disease.” This means that no matter what we hit it with, my cancer keeps sticking around.

Today is important not only for the #Frocktober campaign, but because it falls in carers week. So I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge two main amazing people in my life who give up so much to be there to support me through every high and low. Matchy matchy in our Gorman with one of my favourite humans and biggest supporters. Love you mum ❤️ And of course, my amazing husband. Words could never describe how much you mean to me or your support, in particular over the last few years 💑

The photo was taken on my first official day as Mrs Hurst. Ryan and I were lucky to make it out to lunch before the next stage of lockdown came in for regional Victoria, which felt like such a treat!

I also want to give a special mention to the very generous donation of $500 from anon! It’s very appreciated ❤️

Spending the first few weeks of Frocktober in hospital has made it difficult for me to participate in “frocking up,” something that I was really looking forward to. This is just another thing that cancer has taken away from me. Instead, the first frock I share with you is a throw back to when Ryan and I celebrated our wedding and surprised our family and friends by telling them we were already married! Please keep up your generous donations during this difficult time, every bit counts 🤞🏼

Time for a quick update - thanks to your generous donations so far, I have already surpassed my individual fundraising goal. A special shoutout to the educators, families & children from Goodstart Early Learning (Mill Park Uni drive) who did an amazing job Frocking up yesterday and donating a huge $400. So I think it’s time to up my goal! Thankyou so much to everyone that’s donated so far, every bit counts to get us closer to an early detection test and saving lives.
