Tips from a top Frocker: Q&A with Julie Poulter

Meet Julie Poulter, a four-time Frocktober fundraiser and a vintage-lover through and through. Julie answers questions about why she gets involved in Frocktober and shares some of her tips to make the most of the campaign and achieve your fundraising target.

How do you Frock Up and how would you describe your style?

I do Frocktober the old-fashioned way, which is to wear 31 dresses over 31 days. My style and most of my frocks are vintage from the 1940s and 1950s.

Tell us why you love Frocktober

There is nothing fun about ovarian cancer. But Frocktober is a fun, inclusive and positive way to raise money and awareness for an important cause.

Have you ever held an event for Frocktober? How did you organise it and what was the style of the event?

I held a Frocktober afternoon tea in the office, and everyone was encouraged to wear a frock on that particular day. We then had an impromptu fashion parade with everyone who participated!

How long have you been participating in Frocktober? What keeps you coming back?

I've done Frocktober four times now. I keep coming back because it's a great way to share my passion for vintage frocks and raise money while doing it.

What are your top tips for fundraising during Frocktober?

It's all about social media! Make sure you post your outfit every day, and always include your fundraising page link. It may seem like a lot, but you want to make it as easy as possible for people to donate. Don't make them work for it!

What advice would you give to someone joining Frocktober for the first time?

If you're taking on the 31 Days of Dresses Challenge: getting a photo of your frock every day can be tricky, but it's so important. If you don't have willing photographers on hand, I recommend getting a tripod for your phone with a Bluetooth remote. Even Kmart sells them, and they make life a lot easier!

If you had to describe Frocktober in one sentence, what would it be?

A fun and fashionable way to raise money for women's health
